He gave them meaning through the task he entrusted to them. They were to care for this paradise.
So God created mankind in his own image, … God blessed them and said to them, ‘Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it.

As descendants of the first humans, we no longer meet God’s standard.
Like them, by our very nature we do not want to be dependent on God.
We distrust God, or in other words, we prefer to trust in ourselves.
This distrust separates you from God.
Being in this condition is called being a sinner.
What does it mean to be righteous?
For us today, being righteous refers to how we treat each other, all equally.
But the biblical understanding is based on God’s righteousness. In the Bible, God communicates his standard by which righteousness is measured. Being righteous is therefore not just a good deed. Righteous describes our condition in comparison with God.
GOD HAS PLANTED A
LONGING FOR PEACE IN US

The result of all this is our inner emptiness and unending needs. We hunger for recognition, love and peace.
This longing comes because we were created for relationship with the eternal God. Only in relationship with him do we find peace.
God wants this relationship to be restored!
God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us. “For in him we live and move and have our being.”

Filling the void is our quest for peace.
Neither people, your own effort, nor a religions can satisfy this longing.
GOD MAKES
A WAY TO PEACE

In order for our relationship with God to be healed, God became man in Jesus Christ. Jesus was faithful to God his Father. With Jesus Christ there was no sin, no separation.
Sinless as Jesus was, he could take our place.
For this, Jesus died on the cross. For our sin, he was killed and separated from his Father. Our guilt was atoned for. He cleared the way for reconciliation with God.
But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.
Isaiah 53, verse 5

HOW DO I GET
THIS PEACE?

Question:So what is needed in order to restore peace with God? What does the text say?
1. Invite Jesus into your life.
2. Believe in him.
Question: What right does this give you?
You become a child of God. Your relationship with God is straightened out and his peace fills you!
You can pray like this:
Jesus Christ, I have lived without you. In my pride I have gone my own way. I realize that this has made me guilty towards you and my fellow human beings.
(Confess your guilt and sin. Speak out what you have been made aware of.)
I have not trusted you God until now. I am separated from you!
I invite you Jesus! Come into my life. I want to listen to you from now on and to follow you.
I believe that you died as a substitute for my sin. In doing so, you removed my separation from God. Through your resurrection, I now know that God has accepted this sacrifice.
I thank you that I am now your child and can receive your peace. Amen!
What happens next?
I recommend that you look for followers of Jesus in your region. They will help you on your first steps with Jesus. Read the Bible regularly and talk to God, even and particularly when you are guilty again. Like every relationship, your trust in God grows with your honesty. God longs for fellowship with you!
My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father – Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.1 John 2, verse 1
